VoiceThread U. · [Sticky] K-12 Educator Account, 1 to 50 of 60
VoiceThread is offering free educator accounts for all k-12 classroom educators. These free accounts are identical to the Pro account in almost every aspect. After you are signed in and on the Browse, Create, or Myvoice pages click the button up top that says 'Go Pro' and then click the link in the next window that says 'K-12 classroom educators'.
But of course it's true that nothing in life is truly free, so here is what we want in return:
That's it. If the deal sounds good to you then apply for the free account by hitting the 'Go Pro' button. We'll send a confirmation e-mail to your school based e-mail address. Just click the link in the confirmation e-mail and you're all set.
p.s. If you don't get the e-mail make sure to check you spam folder, it can get stuck in there sometimes.
Hi Erica,
it's ok if your school address ends in .org, go ahead and fill out the form. Also, I know this sounds strange but we don't yet have a way to completely delete your account, we're working out the details and should be done soon. The difficulty is deciding how to handle a user's comments on other peoples Threads, do they disappear when their account is deleted? Anyway, we'll get it worked out soon.
Thanks,
-Steve
Hi Peggy,
you should be o.k. we don't absolutely require a .edu address(we just look a little closer if it's not;) It's possible you're not logged in and that's why you don't see the 'Go Pro' button. Make sure you are and let me know if it doesn't appear.
and thanks so much for the praise, we really appreciate it.
-Steve
Hi Peggy,
could you tell me your e-mail address that you're using for this account? Not here, but send it to help@voicethread.com and I'll look up your account to see what status it has. Maybe that will tell us something.
-Steve
I think you're all set, let me know if you have any trouble
Hi Kris,
Sorry for the pop up, feels a little like an ad doesn't it?;)
The Educator account is free, but if you want to work in the Ed.VoiceThread network there's a one time $10 verification fee because it's an accountable network where there are no free accounts. But you don't need to join it if you don't want to. Let me know if you keep getting that pop up, it sounds like it could be a bug.
Thanks,
Jane -
The $10 verification fee is for access to Ed.VoiceThread (http://ed.voicethread.com/) only, which solves many security issues for K-12 education related to the free version of VoiceThread (ie. anyone having the ability to get a free account). There are still free K-12 educator accounts on the main VoiceThread site. To learn more about the benefits of Ed.VoiceThread, take a look at the about page: http://ed.voicethread.com/about/. Please let us know if anything doesn't make sense or isn't clear, as we're working hard to improve VoiceThread everyday.
Hi Rick,
here's your answers(I hope;)
Normally the way to send invites is to select each contact by clicking on their avatar in the 'Friends' list so that the whole thumbnail gets highlighted with a yellow border, and then click the invite button that's to the right. This grant them the right to comment in your Thread, and will also generate a link in the email that allows them to see it without being prompted to sign in. When you click the Comment button the way you were doing, it gives them the right to see and comment, but it does not automatically log them in. The different experiences of the people you invited probably has to do with the fact that some were already signed in within their browser and some were not.
Your right, that could be confusing. The information in the e-mail refers to voicethreads in general not to the specific case where someone is invited to view only(.002 of voicethreads) It's a rare case but we should certainly try to provide better information in that instance.
When you become a member of ed.voicethread there are two main advantages, the first is that your content that you create becomes visible to all the student users on ed.voicethread. The second, and really the most important is that you can start your own class or school subscription that allows you to create/manage student accounts. The whole point of ed.voicethread was to create an accountable environment that allows students to collaborate openly outside of their classroom, without having them interact with anonymous users and the content of anonymous users. So If you're going to use ed.V I would start a class subscription to see what it's all about. I'd be happy to give you a free one month trial, let me know and I'll set it up for you.
Thanks,
