The new VoiceThread is here! Learn more about some of the new and improved features here.
More leg room
A more efficient layout means media can be larger and more detailed within the very same space. Think: more legroom, same size car.
Both devils and angels are in the details
Higher-quality media display, higher-resolution annotations, and new zoom controls enable conversations about the more fine-grained details of the media you upload. From x-rays and architectural blueprints to spreadsheets and photographs, more detail enables richer and more accurate conversations.
One size does fit all
Both your media and the controls around it are automatically scaled to fit your browser window. Whether you’re on a small screen, large screen, or anything in between, the VoiceThread will simply fit the space comfortably. You can play with this yourself by grabbing the lower right corner of your web browser window and resizing it to see how the VoiceThread adjusts itself on the fly.
The previous version of VoiceThread had a ‘full-browser’ mode that allowed the VoiceThread to fill as much of the browser window as possible. Now, ‘full-browser’ mode is the default and a new true full-screen mode makes everything else on your screen disappear. It’s great for presentations or when you really want to concentrate and remove all distractions from view.
Doodler annotations are now high resolution
Along with the availability of higher-resolution media display, the Doodler is now more accurate and enables detailed drawings that simply weren’t possible before.
Instead of splitting the Identities of commenters into two columns on either side of the media, there is now only one column on the left side of the slide. It scrolls indefinitely so there is no limit to the number of comments visible to you in a single view. No more pagination of comments!
In addition, each and every comment now has its own Identity image. This makes it much simpler to visually understand the structure of a conversation where there is a lot of back and forth between the same participants.
Drag-n-Drop comment reordering
To reorder comments on one of your VoiceThread slides, just drag any Identity image in the conversation to a new location, and drop it. The new order is saved instantly. This enables the easy curation of a conversation and interesting discussion models like this unscheduled Q & A session with a subject expert.
Higher resolution video
Webcam comments are now higher resolution, can be made larger by the viewer, and can be ‘un-docked’ from the conversation channel and moved anywhere on your screen to where they fit best.
Upload video files as comments
You’ve always been able to do this with audio files, but video files can now be uploaded as comments, too. This is a powerful new tool for documentarians who want to record video interviews with subjects, and then edit and upload those videos into a VoiceThread, resulting in documentary conversations where the participants have never seen nor heard anything about VoiceThread.
No more text limitations
Text comments now scroll… infinitely. They will fit on any size screen. In addition, the comment window is resizable and movable to the part of your screen where it fits best.
Work in batches
Bulk actions for sharing, deleting, and making copies of VoiceThreads make it much faster to set up your courses and get your work done.
Advanced search and sort options
Organize your VoiceThread page like never before. Searching is much faster, and you can now sort your VoiceThreads by more criteria.
Speedy and intuitive
Your VoiceThread content now loads much faster, and vertical page scrolling makes it more user friendly.
Simpler sharing controls
Whether you’re grabbing a quick share link or securely sharing with a Group or Class, the workflow is much simpler. The new ‘Who has access’ sharing summary provides a list of all the people who have access so you can see at a glance who you’ve invited.
Choose the dark side… or perhaps the light
The new Display Preferences allow you to choose a light or dark interface to match your visual preferences… or mood.
A compact list view, available in addition to the standard thumbnail view, allows power users to scroll through their content faster.
Customize your Group/Class Spaces
You can now choose a banner image for your Group Space to help customize the workspace and set the tone for the subject matter.
Lots of Drag-n-Drop
Upload files, share VoiceThreads, re-order comments, and add students to your courses by drag-n-drop. The interface feels more intuitive when you can perform actions via by dragging items right to where you want them.
Right-to-left text entry
Type your VoiceThread titles, descriptions, and text comments in any language, including those written right-to-left. We support them all!
Group landing pages
Send your members a unique URL that takes them straight to the Group space, where they’ll find all the Group’s content. They don’t have to find a Group themselves anymore!
More space for your content
The Groups menu on the left side of your page can now be collapsed to allow more room for your content.
Easy keyboard shortcuts allow you to navigate VoiceThreads and record comments quickly and fluidly.
With the update, there are some small features that are no longer available, as well. You should still be able to do everything that you could do previously in VoiceThread, but some of these updates may change your workflows.
- No organization-wide Group: You can still share with your Groups, and you can still add other people as contacts. You just aren’t going to see all students and instructors in your license as part of your contacts list automatically. This not only helps your institution comply with FERPA but also prevents members from inadvertently publishing their VoiceThreads to the entire school or university.
- VoiceThreads will not automatically advance through your slides by default. To enable this feature, you can simply edit your VoiceThread’s Playback Settings.
